DE BORTOLI YARRA VALLEY SINGLE VINEYARD SECTION A7 CHARDONNAY

Gentle restrained nose, minerally, citrus and floral notes. Fine and textural, a touch savoury and nutty, soft acidity and quite relaxed in nature.
REGION
Yarra Valley
VINEYARD
A new single vineyard Chardonnay release from a south east facing site vineyard planted in 1991. Always a very delicate style from this plot.
WINEMAKING
Grapes are hand picked, whole bunch crushed, pressed and allowed to settle overnight. The turbid juice is then racked to older French oak casks where it undergoes natural fermentation. Lees are stirred in late autumn and then left to rest on lees until late November.
CELLARING
Starting to show its pedigree and will continue to develop complexity and interest for 5-10 years in a good cellar.
ADDITONAL INFORMATION
Vegan, Vegetarian
FOOD RECOMMENDATION
Pan fried John Dory.

REVIEWS
Hand-picked, whole bunch crushed, natural ferment in older French oak. From a highly rated vintage. Mid-straw. Finely sculpted chardonnay that looks to its site for inspiration, one known for producing wines of a more delicate disposition. Brings together nectarine, quince, lemon, mandarin skin. Serious stuff.
A full complement of chardonnay fineness on the palate of almond meal, stone fruits, bitey quince on the finish and acidity everywhere, and nowhere, such is the balance. 96/100
Halliday Wine Companion 2021 August 2020
Wet-straw aromas over peach, pawpaw mineral notes, fresh and youthful. The palate is dry and savoury, long and powerful, with some wet-stone nuances and toasty-smoky notes, rich and driving yet understated. A smart chardonnay. 94/100
The Real Review May 2020
Planted in '92 on an east-facing slope, Section A7 is one of De Bortoli's best vineyard sites. Elegant, long and perfectly balanced, the wine supports the reputation the Yarra Valley has for its Chardonnay's, and how doing less means a better wine. 95/100
Halliday, Victoria January 2020
Palish colour and a restrained bouquet, which is fresh and pure, fruit-driven and straightforward, with a light patina of nuttiness. The wine is bright and light, dry and reserved, crisp and understated. There's a curious wateriness to the palate. Low alcohol? A restrained and slightly underdone chardonnay, notwithstanding the price. It may build more character with time. 91/100
