One of the most unique and boutique wines we have experienced comes from Block. Handcrafted by Domain de Binet and Ballabourneen renowned winemaker, Dan Binet, the Reishi Mushroom Shiraz is matured in French Oak Barrels and infused with Reishi Mushrooms during fermentation. This delicious and unique single vineyard wine featuring all the boldness you’d expect of a Hunter Shiraz, with textures of wild forest fruits and silky savoury tannins – it has a finish lifted by sour blackberries. Beautifully complimenting this is a soft underlying note of earthiness from the Reishi mushrooms imparted into the wine during barrel which immediately fills you with warmth and a sense of wellbeing. Reishi Mushrooms have been used for many centuries in Chinese traditional medicine. It is believed that the reishi mushrooms help enhance the immune system, reduce stress, and improve sleep. Reishi mushrooms have also been taken to try and treat health conditions such as high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Semillon is currently a bit of unloved grape and wine variety in the world. David from Running Horse Wines states that this is mistake and that everyone will come to their senses soon! Indeed, we have recently tasted some amazing Semillons in the Hunter Valley and have bought some of them into our online wine and champagne store. The Hunter Valley is renowned globally for producing the best Semillon grapes and wines. A particularly interesting Sparkling wine is made by Pierre's Wines using Semillon grapes and is a favourite amongst our customers. Whilst Semillion is not allowed as a grape variety to make Champagne that does not stop Peter at Pierre's wines. He makes Sparkling wines and wines exactly how he likes them in the "Methode Traditionelle." It is a real winner and we highly recommend trying it!
